"The Elton John AIDS Foundation ( EJAF ) was established in the United States in 1992 and in the United Kingdom in 1993 by Sir Elton John. At the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) we believe that AIDS can be beaten. We act on that belief by raising funds for evidence-based programs and policies, and also by speaking out with honesty and compassion about the realities of people’s lives. EJAF is one of the world’s largest HIV grant-makers. With offices in the U.S. and the U.K., EJAF has raised more than $300 million for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS since its inception in 1992. In the Americas, we invest approximately $7 million in more than 120 organizations every year, with half of this focused on the Southern U.S. and the Caribbean. EJAF is unique among funders in being pioneering, efficient, and unafraid of tackling the most difficult issues related to HIV. Hundreds of individuals and organizations invest through EJAF because of the way we work: We focus on innovation and sustainability: We communicate regularly with all of our grantees and allies to listen and learn about new opportunities for impact. Our grant-making process is open to small and previously unfunded organizations, responding to hundreds of funding requests annually, and we stay ready to invest in new ideas, new leaders, new areas of work, and new ways of working. Our average grant size is $102,000, and we provide large renewing grants and invest in long-term partnerships to achieve change over time."
